Craft Lab: Paisley Table Redo

Here's one of the projects I've been working on for my daughter's new room.

My mom picked this little table up at a yard sale for $3. It's sturdy and cute to boot.
It needed a new coat of paint, so I just added two coats of exterior white I had around.

The new color-crisp white
We needed to not spend a lot on this project, so I ordered a half yard of this rare Amy Butler paisley fabric online for about $10. Here is the fabric next to the closet drapery panels that we are keeping in the space. I had to find a fabric that pulled all the colors together with the addition of the new purple palette we are adding to the room. My daughter's new pillow case is on the bottom, it's vintage, and had all the colors we are using. I know it's alot of pattern, but none of them will be next to each other, so they will blend in nicely.
Here's the table right before I cut the fabric to the shape of the table. I don't cut the fabric perfectly, because I will trim off the excess fabric later.
After this step, I apply a nice coat of Mod Podge to the table surface and then place the fabric on top. I use a roller to get all the bubbles out.
I'm not sure why, but I set up my work area in the living room. I think I forgot that the glue can drip and make a big mess.

Here's the edge before I cut it with the cuticle scissors.

Here's my daughter adding another coat of Mod Podge to the table top. After the final coat, we do a wet sanding to get the rough edges off. The wet sanding makes it super soft and smooth.
The table is done, but the room still needs to be painted. More photos to come in the near future.

Wall Art Project

Over the last week we have split the kids into two separate rooms. The split happened earlier then planned. No biggie, I have had the time to do it. I'm just not ready to make any purchases or paint yet. So, we are making do with what we have. My daughter wants her room to be turquoise and purple. The purple part is the challenge for me. I still haven't figured out that one. The turquoise fits in perfectly. Here is our first project for her new room. I got these embroidery rings for .10 each at a yard sale. We found some of our favorite Amy Butler fabrics and added them to the rings. Now, I just need to hang them on the walls.

I heart Amy Butler!!!!

Here's a shot of of some of my beautiful organic towels from Amy Butler line at Bed Bath and Beyond. Don't they look great next to my Amy Butler shower curtain? Every time I walk into this room, I get a big happy smile on my face.

Craft Lab- Molly's Lamp redo

My niece gave me this lamp to redo for her forever ago. I painted and decoupaged it with some Amy Butler paper, and thought I was done. The lamp sat on my craft counter for months. She asked me if I was done with it yet a couple weeks back. At the same time, I started to follow a fellow crafter's blog and she inspired me to add a little sparkle. Out came the Martha Stewart glitter and wow, what a difference. Of course, I love how it turned out.

Craft Lab: Stool Redo

s
This was one of my first collage projects when I first discovered the magical world that is Mod Podge. This little stool has been looking horrible lately, it lived a good life. So, I ripped off all the paper, repainted the legs white. Then, I glued on a piece of Amy Butler fabric, many coats of Mod Podge later, I added the dots around the edge. I love it. I can't wait to put it back into use. We call this the Naughty Stool, however, in it's new life, we must rename it (the kids aren't so naughty anymore, either). Any idea's?

Craft Lab: Fabric covered Bangles

In progress, bangles covered in fabric. So easy, a little messy, really fun to make. I picked up these vintage bangles at our local thrift stores. Cut the fabric in to strips a little wider than the bracelet, applied glue on bracelet, after it dries, trim the edge with cuticle scissors. Then, keep applying the Mod Podge coat after coat. I also do a wet sanding, to smooth out the finish a bit.

in progress-the bedroom

I had to just take a quick shot of the new organic bedding that arrived this week. I love it! I have to still paint the walls a nice light grey(not a high priority) and I'd like to reinvent the prints behind the bed. For the prints I'd like to paint the frame glossy white and make collages on them. The prints are a little sentimental to me. My daughter at age 22 months started to wear glasses for a turned eye and she is super far sighted. She was so little and on the first day of wearing her new glasses, we were laying on our bed and she looked up at the prints and said "look at the monkeys." I think I cried. She had such horrible vision she hadn't been able to make out the monkeys before. It was as if she was seeing things for the first time.

my new bedding

We are a one income family, so everything I spend has to be thought out. I have been wanting to change our bedding for a couple of years. Most of what we have is almost 10 years old. I'm ready for a change. I decided to only buy organic or something old. Well, I blew that plan when I purchased the sheets at Target. They are 1000 thread count and super soft, and the most lushest shade of gray. I love them. So, next up was a new duvet. I found an organic tufted one at West Elm, but the color didn't work. Then, a couple of months ago they introduced a new white version. I finally ordered it on Ebay last week. Next up, the coverlet. I thought I wanted this one, until I saw it was not turquoise enough for me. So, I saw Amy Butler had come out with a whole line of organic bedding by Welspun. I checked it out and fell in love with the charcoal gray coverlet. It took me a few days, before I figured out how to purchase it, Bed,Bath and Beyond is selling the line. So now I just need to order! Oh yeah, I'm thinking about painting the walls a light shade of grey. I can't wait to put it all together for a nice photo shoot. Stay tuned.

Jenny'sFabrics

I walked into one of our local fabric stores a few weeks back and they had a whole end cap of Amy Butler fabric. I did a little happy dance right there in the store. I usually have the buy this online and the fact that I could just drive over and touch the fabric is so darn exciting. I'm a happy girl. So, if you live in Orange County and are driving down the 405, get off on Warner and head straight over to Jenny's Fabric's. It's a nice independent store. They'll even order yardage for you if they don't have it in stock.

Amy Butler Paper Crafts

I was perusing the Amy Butler web site today and found all kinds of great project ideas and inspiration. Here's a crazy cuckoo clock made out her beautiful craft paper line. I wonder how many hours went into making it? She also has all kinds of free downloadable projects. Keep up the good work Amy!
