Some New Art- Shrinky DInks Framed

I was asked to help out with a classroom art project that would be auctioned off at a school event.  So I hit up Pinterest and came up with a cool idea.

This is a screen shot of the image from Pinterest.  There was no website to link it too.  I just figured it was done with Shrinky Dinks.  

Here's the shapes the class made.

 I brought in plastic cups with different in diameters for them to trace circles.  Then,  the kids colored the plastic Shrinky Dinks with colored Sharpy Markers.  Lastly, the kids cut out the shapes.

These were fifth graders, so they did an excellent job.

Here's the final Classroom Art Project.

 My Mother in Law really liked the finished project and was bummed she didn't win the art at the auction.  So, another idea was hatched.  At Thanksgiving, I brought over all the supplies and together as a family we all made shapes.  I love the idea of everyone being involved.  Here's the final project.

Finding the right order to place all the shapes is part of the process, I wanted it to be symmetrical

Because this was for Gram, lot's of Love was put into it!

I sorted it by color to make the piece balanced.

The center was hearts, lovely!

 The frame is a Ribba from Ikea.

I'm so happy withe results.

We did a fun family art project for Mother's day.  Each on of us picked a letter from LOVE and made our own unique painting for someone we really love.  The only rules were to keep the colors same,

 and the letters pretty much the same size.

Craft lab: Owl trash art

This summer we are going to focus on using trash to make art. Here is our first attempt. We used toilet paper rolls to make these adorable owls.

Crayon Art

I made this last week with my daughter. Super easy and fun too!

I saw this idea over at Pinterest and thought it would be a great way to use up some crayons from our ever growing stash. 

We just hot glued all the crayons to a blank canvas.  Then took a blow dryer and started on one end and slowly moved across to the other end.  

this is a little messy, so please do this outdoors.

I'm going to frame this in either a Lucite shadow box or an all white deep frame from Ikea.

Keeping the kids busy is my goal with this craft.  This was so easy  and I had all the stuff on hand.  

You'll need:  

side walk chalk

water

mallet/hammer

plastic baggies

bowls

paintbrushes

Have the kids put each color of chalk in to a zip lock bag, close it up and go to town with the mallet.  Mash up the chalk until it is dust.  Try to get all the lumps out.  Next, place chalk dust into the bowl and add a little water to make a paste.  Add water until you get a paint like consistency.   Then paint!  The kids pretty much did this all by themselves.  The best part of this craft, is keeps on going.  After were done for the day, we set the bowls aside so we can come back the next day, add water to the bowls again and start painting.  Have fun!

A Day At The Races

A few weeks back it was really cold here in So Cal, like really cold. We decided to venture out and take the family to the track. We had so much fun with the kids.  Every Race we moved to another area of the park so the kids wouldn't get bored. We placed small bets and even won one race we bet on.  Here's the photos of the day!

This was an inexpensive and fun way to spend a Sunday with the family.  We love a good adventure!
