Goodbye Grandma

My Grandmother passed away earlier this week. She was 87 years old and lived a nice life. I was her only grandchild. I was sooo spoiled as a child, I never went without. Looking back on our lives together, I have so many wonderful memories. The thing that is sticking out right now is the way she lived, very simply. My Grandparents lived in the desert after they retired. Their house was a little tiny cabin on 2 acres. One of the acres was this kick ass motorcycle track. I loved it as a kid. She had the most beautiful skin, she stayed in the shade her whole life and it showed. She always made people gifts, every new baby got a special bonnet made out of a hankie. And she mastered the granny square, so she made everyone a crocheted blanket. Grandma was a nature lover. Sadly, I never actually knew this when she was alive. You see Grandma wrote me a letter every year. She kept them in a binder and saved them for me until she died. As I was reading them this week, the one thing she kept writing about was the birds all around her, her lovely poppies she planted every year, the bright stars in the sky. Wow, we were very much alike. She used to hang her laundry out on the line, she composted her food scrapes, she had a veggie garden, they had chickens that laid green eggs. She was green before there was green. Now, I know that some of this was out of necessity, but it has inspired me. The last few months she lived in a rest home, she asked for nothing, she just wanted to rest. I had the best times with her just staring at her. I'm missing you Grandma Gingerbread, thank you for loving me so much.

Sorry for your loss. She sounds like a wonderful lady who lived a very admirable life.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on eat, pray, love. It too has changed the way I look at many things. I love when a book opens that kind of door.

Warm Regards,
Lindsay
