Craft Lab: Valentine Heart
I did a little experimenting with a new way to glitter the other day. I saw Martha Stewart do something like this on her show, so I wanted to give it a try. Instead of my usual Mod Podge, I used a spray adhesive. I've had this can since college and found it recently. I visited my favorite craft store, Fabric Barn, in Long Beach, the other day and picked up a bunch of these Styrofoam hearts. Thinking I'd glue paper on them, I cut out my first piece and it looked like crap, so onto the glitter. I sprayed the glue on the heart, making sure to lay it on a paper the piece wouldn't stick to(I recycled the backing of the heat and bond iron-on ) then moved over to another piece of paper for the glittering process(I actually used 2 pieces of 12x12 card stock for this, to insure I don't waste any glitter)and sprinkled with the glitter. I found this method easy at this point. That was until, I tried to pick up the piece and got sticky glue/glitter all over my fingertips. The heart needed several coats of the spray, then glitter. In the process, I sprayed the glittering paper with the spray glue(a few cuss words were used)and glued the glitter to the paper. In the end, it turned out fine, however it was very messy and I'd probably would not do the spray method again. I'll try the Mod Podge on the next one and report back.
