Hankie du Jour

This cute little hanky is the perfect accessory to have around today. Now how would I design a guest room around this? Well, all white walls, white bedding with a scalloped edged bed skirt, I'd have to find a white coverlet with shamrocks quilted on it(all white), the bed shams would be in a sheer fabric. For the walls, pressed shamrocks framed on the walls, a shamrock shaped mirror for above the dresser and a framed piece of Irish linen with a nice quote on it . The furniture would be a dark wood, the bed could be wood too. The chair in the room would be white fabric with a sheer slipcover over it. For the floor, a natural rug, sisal or a nice water hyacinth woven rug. For the windows, a full sheer curtain. OK that's it...for now.

Hanky du Jour

To keep my mind on design, I'm using my hankie of the day feature to imagine a beautiful room inspired by the hanky's design. This lovely hankie would make a beautiful bedroom, white bead board around the room, light blue on the walls, a yellow dresser with flower knobs from Anthropolie, the bedding would be all white( maybe a couple of yellow stripes in grosgrain on the bed skirt) The possibilities are endless, yellow and white paint on the wood floor, yellow as the border, white in the middle. I would use the pink in the accessories, very pale and subtle. An overstuffed chair slip covered in vintage chenille. Maybe a couple of pink crystals on the chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Can you see it? I can make this room yours if you'd like.

Hankie du Jour

This hanky was a gift from my mom to my daughter. The yellow polka dots are so modern and chic. Wouldn't this combo of yellow and white with the dots make a great room. Crisp and clean...fresh.

Hankie du Jour

Way before tissues, we were are all environmentally friendly and all used hankies. Over the years I've have a acquired a large collection of hankies. They are a mixed variety, some plain, some with beautiful flowers, some art deco. All are unique and I find much inspiration in them. So I saw this mom at a play class pull one out and blow her son nose a while back, and it got me thinking. So the next hanky I ran across, I washed and stuck in my purse. My latest green idea to hit our house is more hanky less tissue(i do buy the recycled tissues from Trader Joe's). Now I just throw them in the wash with all the napkins and dish towels.

This hanky is beautiful, I love the contrast of the brown and white. I could decorate a room around this hanky. I can't wait for my next project.
