the Bolsa Chica's lost dolphin

We got news of a large dolphin stuck in our Bolsa Chica wetlands  this week.  By Friday the news crews were out investigating.  It seems that a small pod of dolphins swam into our harbor and are lost.  The adult male in the pod is now at the end of channel in the wetlands.  We went down yesterday to investigate.  The poor dolphin just keeps circling round and round at the end of the channel.  The authorities do not want to harm the dolphin so they are trying to see if he will just go out the right way on it's own.  Here's some photo of the beautiful creature.

I couldn't believe how close this bird let us get to it. It was the same size as the kiddies on our hike.

Only a few things were blooming on this winter morning, and I'm so excited I figured out how to use the macro setting for close ups.

A cold trip to see the birds

We braved the cold and wind to visit our wetlands between the rain showers this weekend. The birds were aplenty and put on a great show for us.

Another day at the wetlands. I watched this white egret forever, it was a fabulous hunter. My little point and shoot camera even caught a bird in flight.

Lately, life has been kind to us. We are sneaking it all in and wearing a smile on our faces the whole time. As our date nights have slipped away, we have found other ways to spend time together. Being in nature is very spiritual for us. Luckily, we live less then 2 miles from the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. During the fall it's all brown and some might say ugly. However, if you pay attention, beauty is at every turn.

Happy Earth Day!

We took the Daisy Scouts on a little nature hike yesterday to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. They picked up trash along the trail and spied a few animals along the way. We ended our day with a weenie and marshmallow roast. I even made a successful bonfire. How are you celebrating Earth Day?
