I saw this on Pinterest, and I knew the kids as while as myself would thoroughly enjoy this art project. I winged it, using what we had on hand. Let's do this:

cut round circles a bit smaller then the bottom of the inside of your salad spinner

place paper on bottom of spinner

drip paint all over paper

Spin. 

(you can also use white paper plates)

OK, now we've had our fun.  On to clean up, the spinner was a mess, but a little soaking and scrubbing and it's paint free! 

What are we going to do with all our works of art?  We have 2 birthday parties this week and I already love to wrap in craft paper, I thought these circles will look cool on the brown paper.  Perfect for boys birthday wrapping too! 

School Garden Pavers

We celebrated our schools 50th anniversary on Saturday.  It turned out to be an awesome event.  I ran  the paint a garden paver booth and loved seeing all the kids painting and getting their art on.  Aren't they cool? Now, I just need to install them!

Crayon Art

I made this last week with my daughter. Super easy and fun too!

I saw this idea over at Pinterest and thought it would be a great way to use up some crayons from our ever growing stash. 

We just hot glued all the crayons to a blank canvas.  Then took a blow dryer and started on one end and slowly moved across to the other end.  

this is a little messy, so please do this outdoors.

I'm going to frame this in either a Lucite shadow box or an all white deep frame from Ikea.

Keeping the kids busy is my goal with this craft.  This was so easy  and I had all the stuff on hand.  

You'll need:  

side walk chalk

water

mallet/hammer

plastic baggies

bowls

paintbrushes

Have the kids put each color of chalk in to a zip lock bag, close it up and go to town with the mallet.  Mash up the chalk until it is dust.  Try to get all the lumps out.  Next, place chalk dust into the bowl and add a little water to make a paste.  Add water until you get a paint like consistency.   Then paint!  The kids pretty much did this all by themselves.  The best part of this craft, is keeps on going.  After were done for the day, we set the bowls aside so we can come back the next day, add water to the bowls again and start painting.  Have fun!

Craft Lab: Woven Art

Here's another classroom art project we completed for our school auction last month. Each class submits a project and is auctioned off at "A Day With Someone Grand." I found this project online and thought it would perfect for the 2nd graders. We had just taught them how to watercolor with oil pastels, so they breezed thru this. The theme of the class this year is space, so I asked the kids to think of 3 space related ideas. I had them draw with a pencil, the three ideas on a 1" by 17" strip of water color paper. Then, I asked them to trace over the pencil with the oil pastels. Next, they used the water colors to paper the paper. Done. Later, I wove the papers into a grid. Then glued the large woven piece directly on the mat of the frame from Ikea. Super easy. People seemed to really like the project.

Kid Art: blowing paint

The kids and I were watching some BBC show, and a guy with no artist background needed a quick art lesson, so an art teacher taught him how to blow paint. I thought this would be a fun craft to try with the kids.








We took almost empty bottles of acrylic paint and added a wee bit of water to them and shook them up. Then, we put some paper up on our fence, and the kids started to blow. This made a big mess on the fence and hardly any paint got on the paper, so we moved to the grass.

*******Please note that my kids are 7 and 6. My 7 year old, sucked up a mouth full of blue paint . I felt horrible for her. I did warn them about getting paint in their mouths. We washed and scrubbed her tongue to get all the paint out of her mouth. So after that little mishap, we changed our technique and didn't suck the paint in the straw, rather, we placed our finger over the top of the straw and lifted it to the paper and dropped the paint and then blew it with the straw while it was on the paper.**************

Play Doh

Summer has come and gone. Keeping the kids busy was a challange for me for sure. Play Doh ice cream and pizza, kept them busy for hours.

Bendaroo Art

My son came up with this idea: Stick BendaRoos on the walls to make a masterpiece. Since he's five, he had no idea the paint would come right off the walls when you pull the sticky wax sticks off. I was planning on repainting anyways. And we have had a lot of fun making art on the walls.

Craft Lab: Painting with Frosting

Project organize the house is serious business around here. I'm going through every nook and cranny. I found these really old tubes of frosting in the cake decorating box. I've never used this sort of frosting and have no idea where I acquired them. Since, they are so old I was going to toss them out. Then, I thought it might be fun to paint with them. The kids had fun playing with the thick texture of the "frosting paint." Oh and I did too. This project was a nice way to entertain the kiddos for a while and I got to clear some space up. Btw, since the frosting was so old, I convinced the kids it would be terrible if they were to eat this stuff and they believed me.

Craft Lab: Solar Prints

This is a great way to spend your time on a hot summer day. I picked up this solar paper kit a while back and just recently found it after the great purge. The kids really enjoyed this craft and after I helped them with the first batch, they could do it on their own.
